The University of Genoa developed a smart polygeneration microgrid for the campus of Savona that was officially commissioned on February 12, 2014. The whole infrastructure was assembled by Siemens Italia Spa, which won the public tender to build the microgrid. Since then, the campus has largely generated enough power to satisfy its own needs with the help of several networked energy producers – with total capacity of 250 kW of electricity and 300 kW of heating.
