The battery energy storage system located at Koyo USA Corp, a tenant of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA), is a Saft turnkey energy storage system (ESS) comprised of two Intensium Max 20E containers integrated with a 100 kW Power Conversion System to the Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) to increase the grids' ability to integrate more renewable energy.

The project aims to achieve the integration of ever‐increasing amounts of renewable energy. The Hawaii Big Island is already a leader, with more than one‐third of its energy coming from renewable sources.
